Multidrop (CP) - Two-Factor Authentication
🔐 Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
📝 What is Two-Factor Authentication?
Two-Factor Authentication, commonly known as 2FA, provides an additional layer of security for your Customer Portal account.
When 2FA is enabled, signing in requires two things:
- Your normal username and password
- A verification code sent to your registered email address
This means that even if somebody obtains your password, they cannot access your account without also completing the additional verification step.
👤 Your Customer Portal Account
Each person accessing the Customer Portal should have their own individual user account.
Your account should have:
- Your own username
- Your own unique email address
- A secure password
- Your correct contact information
Login details should not be shared with other users.
Having your own account helps keep access secure and ensures activity within the Customer Portal can be associated with the correct user.
🔑 Signing In with 2FA
When Two-Factor Authentication has been enabled on your account:
- Open the Customer Portal
- Enter your normal username and password
- A verification code will be sent to your registered email address
- Enter the verification code when prompted
- Once successfully verified, you will be signed into the Customer Portal
Verification codes are security information and should never be shared with another person.
✉️ Not Receiving Your Verification Code?
If your verification code has not arrived:
- Check that you are looking at the correct email account
- Check your Junk or Spam folder
- Allow a few moments for the email to arrive
- Check that the email address registered against your Customer Portal account is correct
If you still cannot receive your verification code, contact your account administrator or support for assistance.
🔄 Resetting Two-Factor Authentication
If you lose access to the email address associated with your account or are otherwise unable to complete 2FA, your authentication setup may need to be reset.
Please contact your account administrator.
For security, you may be asked to confirm your identity before access is reset.
🛡️ Why is 2FA Important?
Passwords can sometimes be compromised through password reuse, phishing, data breaches or other security incidents.
2FA provides an additional security check before somebody can access your Customer Portal account.
It helps protect:
- Your account
- Customer and recipient information
- Order and delivery information
- Documents and other information available through the portal
It also helps ensure that access and activity can be associated with an individual user rather than a shared account.
🔒 Keeping Your Account Secure
There are a few simple things you can do to help protect your Customer Portal account:
- Use your own individual account
- Use a strong, unique password
- Never share your password
- Never share a 2FA verification code
- Keep your registered email address up to date
- Do not allow somebody else to use your account
- Contact your administrator if you believe somebody else has accessed your account
Multidrop support will never ask you to provide your password or Two-Factor Authentication verification code.
