Multidrop - what3words
Overview
When orders are created, we utilise a process called Geocoding to determine the latitude and longitude of the order location based on the provided postcode. However, postcodes often cover large areas, especially in newly built estates or rural locations. what3words allows for a far more precise location, pinpointing a specific 3m² area on a map.
This integration provides several methods for utilising what3words to improve location accuracy for your deliveries.
View Order Page
On the View Order page, a new what3words branded Manage Location field is displayed next to the postcode.
Clicking on Manage Location will open the Manage Coordinates Dialog, where you can manually input or refine the coordinates. Entering a correct and verified what3words reference ensures the precise accuracy that what3words provides, enabling pinpoint location identification that standard postcode geocoding cannot achieve. This level of accuracy is particularly beneficial for properties in areas with broad postcode coverage, such as rural locations or new build estates. It will also be highly beneficial for crews utilising our Driver App, as the app will pass the precise coordinates directly to the users desired navigation app, ensuring more accurate routing and minimising errors in locating the delivery destination.
Manual File Imports (Including Custom Imports)
To include what3words values in your manual file imports, follow these steps:
- Add the what3words value to the Other Instructions column in your existing manifest.
- Ensure the value is provided in lowercase and in one of the following formats:
///what.three.words
what.three.words
Upon import, the order coordinates will automatically update to reflect the what3words location.
Automated Imports
For existing scheduled import processes, the inclusion of what3words can be enabled upon request.
Please contact support to discuss the implementation of this feature.
API Order Creation
When creating orders via the API, you can specify a what3words location by including it in the what3words
field. The system will use the value provided to determine the precise coordinates for the order. This feature ensures accurate geolocation for deliveries, pickups, or other location-specific tasks associated with your order.
For detailed instructions on implementing this feature, refer to the API documentation.
Important Notes
- Always verify the accuracy of the what3words location provided by the customer or recipient.
- Ensure any manually entered or imported what3words values are in lowercase to prevent processing errors.
